Preseason - Downstate (February 21, 2018)
ENY All-Star Games (September 17, 2017)

Long stands a burly 6-foot-3, 205-pounds with a thick lower half. Offensively- At the plate he uses a wide stance to his setup, front leg lift with a back load for timing, upper half slightly crouches to the inside of the plate. Drives his front side and hips forward, as he rotates his hands work on a short path to the ball, barrel gets slightly uphill, stays in the zone a long time with full extension. Power projection to all fields with an 89 mph exit velocity off a tee. Defensively- Stays behind the ball with an open glove, big target at the corner. Needs to work on a quick first step around the bag, arm is accurate with carry to home and 3rd. Pitching-  Uses an exaggerated leg lift with hands going extremely high over his head, some bend in back leg. Long front stride with hip separation, arm-action is back but short and quick from a high 3/4 slot. Fastball currently ranges from 79-80 mph, curveball sits in the upper 60's with loose gradual shape. Changeup 68-69 with fade. Overall Long brings size and strength to the plate and corner position with signs of a next-level bat. On the mound working on getting more length to his arm-circle will not only add more velocity but tighten up his off-speed. Fun player to keep a close eye on this Feb-Summer campaign.
Downstate Fall Preview (October 2, 2016)

Long, 2019 right-hand hitting third-baseman/pitcher, that shows to be projectable at the next level as a pitcher, stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs 200 pounds, ran a 7.94 60. Defensively- Approaches the ball with a wide base, knees directed outward. Funnels the ball to the center of the body with a quick transfer resulting in a traditional shorter arm action for an infielder. Showed good arm strength with the ball carrying well across the diamond and showed good accuracy as well. Arm velocity was recorded at 74 MPH from third base.  Pitching- Starts from the center of the rubber with hand held directly in front of the chest. Drop steps toward 1st base while the hands come straight down to the belt. Gets into a strong gathered position with the lead knee almost chest height while getting the hands back to the height of the shoulder remaining in the center of the body. Shows good separation staying in sync with the lower half and being able to stick the landing. Arm action is long and loose throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. During the live scrimmage showed an ability to challenge hitters on the inner third with the fastball. Fastball showed late life with some arm side run. Fastball topped out at 80 MPH, impressive for a 2019 grad with a strong body. Curveball showed good depth and tight spin, topping out at 74 MPH. Change-up showed some depth and registered 69 MPH, a good differential from the fastball. Showed ability to repeat the delivery on all pitches.
