8/7/18: St. John Fisher (Campus Series)
Thick strong build at 6-foot-1, 185-pounds, frame projects. Sound mechanics, goes over his head for timing with a high knee lift. Fastball comes out of a high ¾ slot, sits 78-79 (80 mph peak), heavy action. CB is 66-67 with 12/6 shape. SS – Active lower half with trained mechanics, high ¾ slot. Fields away from his body, strong throwing arm at 81 mph across the diamond. Offensively – Slightly open stance that closes off to the pitcher after forward stride. Hands stay relaxed during load. Hard contact to his pull-side. 90 mph exit velo.

Preseason - West (February 19, 2018)
Van Woert is a 6-foot-1 185-pound right-handed third baseman and pitcher who ran a 7.7 60. Big, athletic frame. Offensively- Starts with a wide stance and the bat pointed up. Hands out from body. Small toe tap for load. Quick compact swing and a high two handed finish. 83 MPH exit velocity. Works the middle of the field. Defensively- Fields the ball out in front, funnels well to chest and quick release towards target. Active feet allows more easy coverage of third base area. 75 MPH arm strength. Pitching- Starts on first base side of the rubber, brings hands over head and front knee to chest. Throws form a high 3/4 arm slot, downhill with intent. Fastball tops 80 MPH with arm side run. Good command of fastball, needs to work on consistency with off-speed. 2020 grad who will get stronger with age and see velocity jump.
Campus Series-St. Bonaventure (July 11, 2017)
Van Woert stands in at 6-foot-1, 180-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 4.76 home to first. Offensively- - Righty sets up square to the pitcher with his feet just outside his shoulders. Shows a slight knee bend with an upright torso holding the bat above his back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a toe tap to stride forward while his hands move back into his hitting position. Quick hands to the hitting zone with a slight upward lift barrel action throughout into a high two-handed finish. Good lower body rotation getting whole frame involved in the swing. Demonstrated good plate coverage and the ability to hit line drives to all fields during batting practice rounds. Recorded an exit velocity of 82 MPH. Defensively- Good approach and footwork to baseball. Shows good fielding mechanics and is smooth with the funnel to the chest into the throwing position. Was accurate on throws and fields well left/right and on the run. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 72 MPH. Pitching- Sets up in the middle of the rubber with a simple side step into a high leg kick above his hip crease. Good drive down with appropriate separation getting into a good throwing position with a high ¾ release point. Utilizes whole body when throwing and repeats delivery on different pitches. Fastball sat 76-78 MPH and peaked at 79 MPH with good arm side run. Curveball shows tight spin and is 62-64 MPH.
Buckeye Elite (July 12, 2017)
Hitting- A right-handed hitter that starts in a wider setup. Uses a short stride for timing. Bat gets vertical prior to swing decision. Path is level with some whip through the zone. A strong kid that can use the entire field. Showed the ability to create backspin to the middle of the field. Has a middle of the lineup look to him. Exit velocity was 79 MPH and he ran a 7.70 60 Defensively- His footwork is developing. Tends to field the ball deeper into his body. Carries his momentum through the ball well. Throws from a 3/4 arm slot across the infield with his arm strength at 75 MPH. Pitching- On the mound, the right-handed pitcher uses an average tempo delivery with fluid motions. Mechanics are polished for his age and repeatable. Front foot lands slightly open on impact. Would like to see more drive out of his lower half. Releases the ball from a ¾ arm slot. Fastball shows 2-seam run from time to time. Curveball spins a 12-6 shape with sharp bite. Rounds out his offerings with a developing changeup. Arm speed is consistent to his fastball. Talented pitcher to follow.FB: 74-80, CB: 62-66, CH: 66-67.
