Physical: Strong, durable 6-foot-1, 225lb frame with even, thick proportions. 7.84 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH - Balanced, even stance as the knees showed a slight bend to start; utilized a toe tap stride to initiate a high intent, flat path into the hitting zone with separation at footstrike. Generated some burst at impact en route to a mostly pull-side approach and 50% fly ball rate via Trackman. Consistently barreled the ball at the front of the plate while hitting into a stiff, well blocked off front leg. Notched a 42% hard hit rate and added a T93 mph bat-exit velocity, producing loud extra-base hit swings up to 354 feet (home run juice down the LF line). Good lower half connection and future middle of the order consideration.
Defensively: The primary first baseman operated with medium posture, bending at the waist and shuffling strongly in each direction to beat the ball to the spot. Fluid, choppy footwork and an accurate glove hand fielding softly off the middle/left side. Accurate exchanges to the belt line and accurate, low ¾ slot to the target (77 mph arm strength).
9/19/20
Physical: Strong / durable 6-foot-1, 220-pound frame with advanced strength found in the lower half. 7.81 runner in the 60-yard dash. Offensively: RHH. Balanced, even stance with the barrel pointed straight up as the hands worked loosely out over the plate in the setup. Utilized a quick lift and replace stride with stretch in the upper/lower halves creating a powerful launch position; the hands worked through a flat barrel path with impressive lift after impact, had no issues crushing the ball to the pull-side with natural backspin on the ball flight. Liked to keep the hands inside the baseball with a short and direct path then worked long through extension generating a peak bat-exit velocity of 93 mph per Trackman Baseball. The lower half was adjustable and matched pitch plane early and often allowing for a solid 37% line drive rate during batting practice. A 22.50 mph maximum hand speed at the plate according to Blast Motion only further evidences how quickly he got the bat head towards the front of the plate. Defensively: The primary first baseman featured a medium-high setup in the posture while approaching the ball with short, active footwork; fielded off of the middle of his body with a semi-soft glove hand and showed average transfers from glove hand to throwing ear, accurate arm strength across the diamond out of a high ¾ slot with a moderate arm circle. INF - 74 mph … The backstop flashed adequate receiving skills with minimal glove hand movement at the catch point. Pop times ranged from 2.12-2.26 out of a low crouch while getting out and around at times on the straight line footwork, short and quick transfers with accuracy out of a high ¾ slot, minimal momentum towards the target at release. Average blocking technique with the chest a little high on the angles, glove hand got down early and buried into the ground.
