Long Island Top Prospect (January 16, 2017)

Christopher, a 2019 right-handed hitting infielder/RHP, stands at  5-foot-9 and weighs in at 140 pounds, ran a 4.79 from home to first. Offensively- Hits from an upright lower half with the feet slightly more than shoulder width apart while the hands are ear height above the back shoulder and barrel wiggling between a parallel to perpendicular pre-pitch position. Uses a toe-to-heel movement with an inward rotation of the lead knee while the hands are loaded with a subtle straight back movement staying inside the back shoulder and barrel of the bat getting 45 degrees during the launch phase of the swing. During batting practice hands dropped a bit creating a longer path to the ball which resulted in most balls being driven to the pull side line. If the back elbow could stay in a stronger position the barrel would be able to stay more compact on route to the ball which would help improve the 68 MPH exit velocity shown on the day. Defensively- Pre-pitch two step approach with the hands staying inside the body. Approaches the ball with very good body control fielding the ball in front of the body. Transfers the ball, waist high, from the center of the body getting into a good power position. Displayed the ability to throw from multiple arm angles with the throws showing good accuracy to go with the quick transfer. Registered an arm velocity of 71 MPH.  Pitching- Setup from the third base side of the rubber with both hands held in front of the chest. Takes a step towards the first base line while the pivot drags to the first base side of the rubber, hands elevating chin height and lead knee getting to the of the chest during the gathered phase of the delivery. Clean separation with long loose arm action, sticking the landing with the lead toe closed and lead elbow getting to the glove side hip with good extension from the back leg. The fastball, thrown from a mid ¾ arm slot, showed quality arm side run sitting between 73-74 with a top velocity of 74 MPH. Showed ability to locate and command the FB to both sides of the plate. The curveball showed glimpses of being quality with 11-to-5 shape and tight rotation with a velocity of 65 MPH, but needs more of a feel for the pitch. The changeup showed plus fade and depth as well as a good differential from the fastball at 66 MPH.
