Unsigned Senior Showcase (October 3, 2015) Vargas stands 5-foot-4, 140-pounds with a short build. Offensively – at the plate his swing mechanics are sound. Hands stay shoulder height during his stride, his path to the ball is short and compact, barrel follows a level path through the ball, some extension after – 74 exit velocity which is an area he needs to work on. Defensively – he charges the ball in the OF and plays the ball to his glove side, releases from an over-the-top slot at 75 mph. Pitching – he uses a side-step, belt high knee lift, back clean arm action, throws over-the-top with a fastball touching 70. Curveball ranged 58-61 with tumbling action, change up was 61-62.

At the plate he starts open, hands out in front of his head. On the pitch he strides long to even, back loads for timing. He uses a short path to the ball, barrel stays level, long extension out in front, shoulder height finish. Exit velocity was 72 mph off a tee.
Pitching- From the mound he uses a fluid tempo during his delivery. He uses a belt high knee lift, some drift in his balance, hands break chest high. Arm action is deep and short, throws from a high-3/4 slot, nice long stride, finish is over front side.
