Long Island Prospect Preview (August 8, 2016)
Carr, a 2020 grad from Molloy High School, stands at 5-foot-10 and 145-pounds. He ran a 8.0860. Offensively- Begins with a wide lower half and weight centered. Hands are directly above the right shoulder with the bat slightly tilted behind the head. Swing is initiated by a lift of the front leg. Hands and front foot movement get slight separation. Has a tendency to get heavy on the front side when landing, which causes the hands to get ahead of the rotation. Recorded an exit velocity of 69 MPH which will improve with being more consistent in the sequence of the swing. Showed ability to drive the ball to the pull side, as this young hitter matures, should be able to drive the ball with authority from line to line. Defensively- Showed fluid and athletic movements at shortstop. Balanced short choppy steps to create momentum towards first base, however, could be more aggressive on balls straight at him and to the glove side as well. This young 2020 grad showed good range, made accurate throws and recorded an arm velocity of 68 MPH, which increase considerably over the next few years.
