WNY Unsigned Senior Day (October 21, 2018)

Long-limbed, projectable frame with lean build at 6-foot, 150-pounds. Pitching – Smooth, repeatable delivery. Stays balanced at leg lift and allows front hip to lead his body down the slope. Maintains level shoulders as he pushes off his backside. Lands with clean direction towards his catcher. Arm action gets long but doesn’t wrap behind his backside. ¾ release point with loose, whippy finish. Gets considerable extension out over front leg from his torso/upper body. FB showed life and stayed around the zone throughout his bullpen. CB and CH both have potential to be quality offerings at next level.

8/14/18 - St. John Fisher

Wiry lean frame at 6-foot-0, 150-pounds. On the mound he uses a fast pace to his delivery, small leg lift, shorter stride, drives down the powerline, throws from a ¾ slot. Fastball sits 78-80 with late life peaked 81 mph, CB shows loose action 62-63, CH has fade on two-planes at 62-64. 3B – Stays behind the ball, fields the ball deeper into his stance, average glove to hand transfer, quick funnel, high ¾ slot 79 mph arm-strength.  SS – Active with the lower half, moves well laterally, glove is clean out in front. high ¾ slot. Offensively – Slightly open stance into a forward stride. Level swing that has plate coverage. Barrel stays flat thru the zone. Full rotation from lower half as swing finishes. 83 mph exit velo off a tee.

July 2018

Lean frame with athleticism; low ¾ arm slot with extension out in front. Fastball sat 80-81 MPH; staying down in the zone. Also featured a 12-to-6 CB at 61-63 MPH. Frame will support additional velocity gains.

Campus Series-Canisius (July 5, 2017)

Canfield stands in at 6-foot-0, 140-pounds with a tall and lean athletic frame. Ran a 4.54 home to first. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher with his feet wide outside his shoulders. Shows a large knee bend leaning backward with an upright torso. Holds the bat in front of the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a knee raise into a step forward while his hands move back slightly into his hitting position. Quick hands to the hitting zone with a level barrel path throughout into a high two-handed finish. Utilizes good lower body rotation getting whole frame involved in swing. Demonstrated line drive ability during batting practice rounds. Recorded an exit velocity of 82 MPH. Defensively- Good fielding mechanics getting in front of the baseball and funneling it into the chest. Quick transfer into the throwing position but needs to keep the arm swing shorter to get the ball out quicker. Accurate with throws but needs to have better aggressive footwork towards intended throwing target. Recorded a positional infielder arm velocity of 79 MPH. Pitching- Sets up in middle of rubber with a simple side step into a quick leg raise below the belt. Good separation but long with the arm causing the arm to be delayed after foot strike. Better timing will clean up and show more fluid mechanics which will help increase pitch velocity. Fastball had decent arm side run peaking at 81 MPH with a range of 77-80. Also features a knuckle ball as a secondary pitch with average movement showing a range of 59-61. Overall a prospect to keep an eye on in the 2019 class for future improvements.
