Tri City Bombers Try Out (November 19, 2017)
Suriano stands in at 5-foot-10, 145-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 7.14 – 60. Offensively- Righty sets up slightly open in a wide stance. Simple trigger with a quick step forward while loading up with the hands into a good position. Dives out over the plate with the body slightly but utilizes quick hands to the zone with level barrel action. Demonstrated line drive potential up the middle and to the pull side. Recorded an exit velocity of 81 MPH, a 3 MPH increase from November 2016. Defensively- Good approach to the baseball with good footwork. Fluid crow hop mechanics gaining ground throughout the process of the throw. Shows an appropriate outfielder arm swing recording a positional arm velocity of 77 MPH, 3 MPH higher than his previous best of 76 MPH set in November 2016. Pitching- Righty gets set up on the left side of the rubber with a simple side step into a thigh high leg raise. Breaks down well but could use more of the lower body to drive down the mound. Utilizes a high ¾ arm slot with a good follow through getting into the proper fielding position. Fastball was 71-73 MPH with arm side run. Curveball was 61-63 MPH and change up showed 60-62 MPH.
November 6, 2016
Suriano, a 2020 right-handed hitting outfielder/RHP, stands at 5-foot-10 and weighs 145 pounds, ran a 7.63 60. Offensively- Starts with a wide square balanced lower half with a bend in both knees while the hands are in front of the back shoulder and barrel of the bat perpendicular to the ground with the barrel slightly pointing in the pitchers’ direction using a pre-pitch wiggle. Gets into the launch position of the swing with a slight stride forward towards the pitcher, with a subtle lift of the lead foot, with the hands loaded straight back outside the shoulder. Showed an ability to drive the ball between the pull side gap to the opposite field gap during batting practice as well as displaying an efficient compact path to the ball with an ability to keep the hands well connected throughout the swing. Recorded an exit velocity of 78 MPH, a personal best and an increase of (+3 MPH) from the previous year. Defensively- Showed athletic and fluid movements to the ball. Fielded the ball on the outside left foot, well balanced lowering the body with the legs rather than bending at the waist. The transfer was quick and efficient, made from the chest area while incorporating an aggressive crow hop. Throws registered an arm velocity of 76 MPH, dramatically increasing from the 65 MPH shown the previous year.
Last Chance Preview (November 29, 2016)
Jagger stands in as 5-foot-8 135 pound OF/RHP. He ran a 4.71 home to 1B and had a 75 MPH exit velocity. Offensively- Jagger starts in a balance and even stance with a 30 degree bat angle. Minimal actions with hands for timing and uses a short stride. Stays back into contact, getting some back foot hip and hip rotation to lead the swing. Stays relatively short to contact with his finish taking him behind his back. Groundball/line drive results. Defensively- Jagger measures his approach carefully, fielding the ball both like an infielder and other times like a conventional OF, with glove outside lead leg. Would benefit from a more aggressive approach and improved arm strength (65 MPH). Pitching- On the mound, Jagger uses a belt high leg drive with a shorter, infield like arm action. Rolls underneath the ball on his upswing and slings from a low 3/4 slot. FB peaked at 70 MPH. Secondary pitches lacked the arm speed to be functional. Breaking ball had some slider/cutter action to it and will need continued feel for change up.
