Flood, an impressive athlete, was able to improve his measurable statistics from February with a 60 time that now stands at 6.98 (was 7.32), an exit velocity that bumped from 75 to 82 MPH. Working out as an outfielder he was up to 77 MPH. Offensively -James hits from a slightly crouched over setup with a controlled load and a slight stride forward. Stays behind the ball and is explosive with lower half. Barrel stays above contact but level in and after the hitting zone with a high finish. Limited weight transfer. Repeatable efforts with line drive results. Defensively- Light on his feet in the outfield, able to stop and switch and/or change directions with acceleration. Uses long arm action and is accurate with some carry. Would benefit from being more aggressive into his crowhop footwork to eliminate any flat foot throws.
Flood stands an athletic and strong 5-foot-11, 150-pounds with room for growth. Offensively- At the plate he starts closed, and slightly wider than shoulder width apart. Bat plane stays level with slight drag. Stays inside the ball, with good and lift through contact. Aggressive swing with signs of power to come, evidenced by his (75mph) exit velocity. High balanced finished. Pitching- On the mound James starts with his hands high and uses a side step to bring him to his balance point. Good counter rotation creating good hip and shoulder separation at landing. Would like to see him stay over his back knee slightly longer. Uses tall to fall pitching approach. Showed above average arm strength for his age (78mph-FB) from a high 3/4 arm slot. Departs clean from the rubber with no drag. Has poise and confidence on the mound. Defensively- In the outfield He stays behind the ball well. Slightly below average foot speed for position (7.32 60yd dash). Clean transfer to a high accurate 3/4 arm slot. Loses a little momentum on ground balls. Arm strength was (71mph).
