A St. John's recruit, the 6-foot-4, 190-pound left-hander pounds the strike zone with a fastball that sits in the mid-80s and will touch uppers. Big, lengthy stride towards the plate which adds to late life on his fastball. He threw 60 of his 85 pitches for strikes against Fordham Prep on April 20, allowing no earned runs with seven strikeouts in the complete game effort. Since he was getting ahead in the count frequently, he was able to go to his slider as his strikeout pitch. It's especially tough against left-handed batters. He'll also mix in a changeup and a two-seamer.
8-15-2018: Big, wide frame at six-foot-five, 205 pounds. Body type and build projects to add more weight and strength, but may not translate to adding more velocity. Tight shoulder. Arm action is stiff and slingy from a low three-quarter slot. Lands well across his body with an upright finish and minimal extension. Was aggressive and challenged with his fastball. Ranged from 85-90 mph with good arm side life. Slurve at 78-80 flashed depth at times but mostly was a horizontal breaking ball, backing up often. Struck out 25 in 23 inning pitched this summer with a 5.78 ERA in 12 relief appearances. (D Jurik)
