Compact R/R backstop; even setup at the plate with quiet timing. Cross cuts the zone with his swing but repeats a balanced approach. Tremendous defender in the dirt; soft receiver with an accurate arm.
Winter Open (February 11, 2018)
Compact 5-foot-8 190 pound frame for the RHH backtstop. Marte ran a 7.64 60 and a 4.47 home-to-1B. Offensively- Slightly open stance with simple load/stride. Explosive at times through the lower half with sustainable bat speed through the zone; showed some punch to his pull side. Exit velocity peaked at 90 MPH. Defensively- Quick feet and transfer; body gets ahead of arm at times creating inconsistent release point. Raw data is there with a 73 MPH arm and a pop time range of 1.98-2.03. With polish and game experience he'll be a front line offensive and defensive player.
Fall 2017
Brothers with Kelvin, the 5-foot-8 180 pound catcher unleashed several throwdowns in the 2.06-2.10 range with one runout at 1.93. Needs a bit more separation with his hands from the body during his swing but is strong and can get the barrel through.
May 2017
Compact 5-foot-8 frame; hits right, throws right. Accurate arm with carry; handled 5 or 6 chances flawlessly at the hot corner including making a backhanded play 10 feet beyond the bag and throwing a dart across the diamond. 4.19 home-to-1B on a sacrifice bunt. Both brothers (twin 1B/LHP Kelvin) made some mental mistakes within the game but will have the time as freshman to develop and grow.
