Eastern NY Prospect Preview (August 2, 2016)
Bass is a 5-foot-10 160 pound OF/RHP with an athletic frame. He ran a respectable 7.00 60. Offensively- At the plate Bass sets up in a spread stance with weight pre-loaded over his back leg; athletic/balance setup. Slight barrel tip towards the mound before extending hands back, off the body. Short up-down stride with an aggressive lower half. Gets on the plane with the ball early, occasionally catching the bottom third of with contact. Ability to drive gaps but also shoot the middle. Explodes on the ball with a two-handed finish; exit velocity peaked at 87 MPH.  Defensively- One of the best outfielders in the 2017 class. Fundamental approach; gathers momentum well, working through the catch. Full body effort into crowhop with throws jumping out of the hand with above average carry. Peak outfield velocity reached 90 MPH.  Pitching-  Works from the glove side of the mound; mid chest balance point with long arm action working through a ¾ arm slot. Slightly upright with finish. Commands FB well at 83-84 MPH; curveball with 12-6/1-7 action at 73-75 MPH. Flashed a few change ups at 71-72 MPH. Impressive dual position prospect; projects better as an outfielder but at the right program will be able to do both.
