8/21/19

A lean athletic 5-foot-10, 175 pounds. Ran a 6.94 in the 60 yard dash. Offensively-the right handed hitter stands in the bat in a tall stance feet shoulder width apart. Uses a slight leg lift for timing and balanced before attacking the hitting zone. Flat bat path through the hitting zone. Displayed hard consistent contact to the pull side. Stays balanced throughout the swing. Defensively- the outfielder displayed active footwork. Aggressive approach to the baseball. Smooth exchange and quick release from a high ¾ arm slot. Displayed accurate throws to the plate.

9/17/17

Nichols checks in at an athletic 5-foot-9 157 pounds. Offensively- The right-handed hitter sets up in a slightly open stance with hands relaxed off back shoulder. Uses a short stride forward/even with a late take back of the hands, occasionaly disrupting his timing. Strong enough and can demonstrated enough bat speed to get back to the ball. Showed some impressive juice to his pull side; will be a gap-to-gap offensive type. Impressive 89 MPH exit velocity (up 5 MPH from July). Defensively- Tracks the ball well; fundamental setup behind the ball. Gathers himself well and works through the catch. Arm is accurate and throws come out on a line with his peak velocity reaching 79 MPH, equal to his high on July 25th. Solid all-around player who plays with comfort and ease.

7/25/17

Nichols stands in at 5-foot-9, 157-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Offensively- Righty shows a fluid swing that is clean and efficient. Has a level barrel path with quick hands and solid lower body rotation that gets whole body frame involved in the process of the swing. Demonstrated good plate coverage with line drive potential to all fields. Recorded an exit velocity of 84 MPH. Defensively- Good approach and footwork to get underneath the baseball. Smooth transition from glove to throwing hand with aggressive footwork towards the intended target. Solid arm strength for his grad year at 79 MPH. Could align himself up better underneath the baseball with target to have a quicker transition into the throw. Overall a talented 2020 prospect that with added strength and development will be a player to keep an eye on at future events.
