6-foot,180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Shows the ability to play centerfield as he gets off the ball and moves very well in the outfield. Gets off the ball well in center, goes back on the ball aggressively. Ran a 4.55 down the line on his dig to first. Tee exit velocity of 87 mph as the hands have life to them. Starts with his feet even and front foot open. The front foot closes down as the ball approaches and he accelerates the hands to the ball. The swing plane is flat, staying on the ball needs to improve as the front shoulder pulls off the ball. Quick twitch, needs to clean up the swing and keep grinding out at bats. Solid prospect to see.
April 2017
Athletic, showed a clean and strong arm from the outfield. Runs well and the swing is loose. On base the whole game whether it was HBP and walk. Solid instincts across the board.
NY All-Star Games (September 17, 2016)
Melillo stands in at 6-foot-0, 170-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Ran a 6.85 – 60, improving his previously recorded time of 7.06 from July 2015. Offensively- Sets up slightly open with his feet shoulder width apart. Knees slightly bent with an upright torso and his hands just above the back shoulder with slight pre-pitch movement in the bat. On pitch his trigger is a short and quick knee raise into a stride forward with his hands moving back into a good hitting position. Quick hands to the hitting zone with good lower body rotation. Bat path is a slight uppercut through the zone because of his weight being back throughout most of the swing. Better weight transfer forward will get more energy in the swing to attack the baseball in the hitting zone. Fluid and smooth swing overall; line drive results with some pull side lift. Recorded an exit velocity of 88 MPH, a 5 mph improvement from July 2015. Defensively- Gets behind and underneath the baseball well. Moves well on the run and going through the ball from the OF. Has a short arm swing from his transfer, will be more accurate and stronger with a longer outfield arm swing. Overall a very good prospect. Displayed a positional velocity of 85 MPH, a 3 mph improvement from July 2015.
Capital Region Open (July 29, 2015)
Melillo is a very accomplished ball player at 5-foot-11 155-pounds, He showed above average arm strength (82mph), Exit velocity (83mph), and speed (7.06 60yd dash). In the outfield he is very aggressive to the ball and through his throws. Able to get the most out his arm creating leverage through his crow hops. Showed a clean to a high 3/4 arm angle. Plus carry on his throws. Able to hit the 3rd baseman on the fly from the gaps. At the plate he starts slightly open but gets back to even with a quick high leg kick. His hands drop slightly creating some drag, but could be corrected easily if he worked on shifting his weight forward. Pull hitter now, but could be corrected easily. Showed good bat speed, and extension out front.
