ENY All-Star Games (September 17, 2017)
Morra stands in at 5-11, 148-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Offensively- Righty sets up square to the pitcher in a wide stance with his feet outside shoulder width. Shows a slight knee bend with an upright torso holding the bat in front of the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a knee raise into a stride forward while his hands move back slightly into his hitting position. Utilizes good lower body rotation getting hips cleared and using the whole-body frame throughout the process of the swing. Shows quick hands to the hitting zone with level barrel action throughout into a high two-handed finish. Tends to let the baseball travel deep before making contact getting caught on the hands. Better timing to go out and get the ball in the hitting zone would correct. Recorded an exit velocity of 75 MPH. Defensively- Good approach and footwork to get underneath the baseball. Shows good crow hop mechanics with a fluid transition from glove to throwing hand. Throws downhill towards target and moves well left/right. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 78 MPH. Pitching- Righty sets up on the left side of the rubber with a simple side step into a high leg raise above the hip crease. Breaks down well with good separation into a high-¾ release point. Could use more of the lower half during the delivery. Still gets good rotation from upper body and is set up in a good fielding position. Fastball range was 76-77 MPH and peaked at 78 MPH with arm side run. Change-up range was 66-67 MPH with sinking action. Curveball range was 59-60 MPH with 12/6 breaking action.
