2027 RHP/SS Stephen Yakubec (Salem High School). Physical, imposing frame. Fastball sits 86-88 mph, works down in the zone. Curveball flashes at 79-80 mph. Changeup sits 80-80 mph. Raw stuff plays.
Athletic Testing
- Grip Strength (R/L): 127.3 / 122.7
Physical: 5-foot-8, 125 pounds; Average, wiry build. 7.85 runner in the 60.
Offensively: RHH. Even setup, with feet just outside his shoulders; bat positioned at a 45 degree angle. Short take back with the hands with a toe-tap for timing. Drifts into contact while showing an average effort from the legs. Showed a swing path that gets around the ball with a two handed finish. More flyballs than line drives and groundballs with a peak exit velocity of 82 MPH via Trackman.
Defensively: Starts with a balanced setup; uses prep step while displaying fluid actions to the baseball. Hands work through the ball with a clean transfer. Long arm swing from a standard 3/4 arm slot. INF - 74 MPH. Athletic defender, potential of increased arm strength creates upside.
Pitching: Uses a glove side setup while using a side step. Mid chest leg drive with a slight coil away from the plate. Has a long stride while landing slightly closed. Long arm swing while wrist hooks behind back; standard 3/4 slot. Spins off 1B side with finish. FB: Peak velo of 76 MPH, while sitting 73-75 MPH; straight action. CB: 61-62 MPH; early action. Recorded a max spin rate of 2,388 on his FB.
Physical: Taller, athletic 5-foot-8, 125lb frame. Room to fill. 7.77 runner in the 60.
Offensively: RHH. Slightly open, inside shoulder-width stance, as the hands operated simply at the shoulder. Power position and stayed above the ball into the turn utilizing a flat, accurate path. Contact hitter that sprayed line drives from gap to gap during his round. Posted T80 mph bat-exit velocity, actions repeated consistently.
Defensively: The shortstop showcased some tempo, gathering at the chest with a soft funnel. Kept the feet moving to the target, clean takeaway, and 69 mph arm across the diamond (H ¾ slot). Could change angle on the move.
Pitching: RHP - Smooth pace into a high leg swing. Balances out and drives down the slope with a short to long arm-path. Falls off to the left side, strike thrower at 73-74 mph, heavy into the zone. Added two-plane 60-61 mph CB and commanded 62-64 mph straight CH.
