The athlete's fastest 60-yard dash time in the given event year. Measured in seconds (s)
7.87
Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
Proportional build at 5-foot-8, 160-pounds. Ran a 7.87 60 yard dash. Offensively – Narrow, upright stance. Sets up slightly open to the pitcher. Uses low forward stride to create separation and get squared up. Loads hand to back shoulder. Gets on plane with the ball quickly. Showed consistent line-drive contact during BP. Exit velocity was 74 MPH. Pitching – Works from the far left side of the pitching rubber. Steady pace to delivery. Simple, repeatable throwing actions. Aggressive finish with some effort out front at release point. Quick, compact arm action with a high ¾ release point. FB topped at 73 MPH and sat mostly 70-72 MPH. Also featured CB at 58-61 MPH with 11/5 shape. SL showed tight break at 61 MPH. CH sat 61-64 MPH. Flashed solid feel for all secondary offerings.
Preseason - West (February 19, 2018)
At the plate he uses a slightly open stance, strides back to even on the pitch, barrel plane is mostly level through contact with a full finish, 73 mph exit velocity. Defensively, gets behind the ball, fields slightly deep in his stance, very quick transfer and release from a mid 3/4 slot, 63 mph arm strength across the diamond. Added overall body strength would benefit his game in the field and at the plate, but also on the mound where he also worked out.
Diamond Pro Workout (January 14, 2017)
Kemp stands at 5-foot-7, 135 pounds with a slender build. Home to first time was clocked at 4.4 seconds. Offensively- Begins with feet shoulder width apart, hands in line with back shoulder. Uses a large toe tap stride at same time that top of barrel points toward pitcher. Barrel path to ball was short, but top hand was stronger in swing, leading to mostly pull side results. Swing finished quickly with minimal extension. Recorded an exit velocity of 68 MPH off the tee. Defensively- Approaches ball with long steps. Sets up wide with knees bent and catches ball in front of body. Inconsistent footwork on throws to 1B. Registered velocity of 64 MPH on throws across the diamond with more in the tank. Body was fluid and athletic on slow roller. Pitching- Sets up with feet close together in middle of rubber with hands in front of chest. Takes large side step with the left foot while using a long toe tap before placing right foot in middle of rubber. Hands go above head through pivot. Front knee comes slightly above waist at his balance point. Arm action stays in line behind body, large arm circle. Stride is directly towards home plate, with moderate length. Fastball was clocked in the 67-71 MPH range. Arm speed stayed consistent on changeup that was thrown at 66-67 MPH. May need to adjust grip to create more velocity separation between this pitch and his fastball.
