Academy Tryouts (November, 18 2017)

Thomas has an athletic build standing at 5-foot-10, 190 pounds with a sturdy frame.  Offensively- Righty with wide stance.  Weight leans towards back foot, small stride with toe tap to engage.  Hands held at shoulder width with back load.  Smooth level plane, short path, quick to the ball with shoulder high one arm full extension.  Exit velocity of 89 MPH off a tee projects power to the gaps.  Defensively- active lower half, fields behind the ball.  Glove transfer fluid, releases from a high-3/4 slot with smooth arm action.  Upper 70s arm strength (78 MPH today) with carry.
Campus Series - Canisius (July 5, 2017)
Thomas stands in at 5-foot-10, 190-pounds with a lean, strong, athletic frame. Ran a 4.74 home to first, just shy of his previously best recorded mark of 4.23 set in January 2017. Offensively-  Righty sets up square to the pitcher with his feet wide outside shoulder width. Has a vertical body holding the bat above the bat shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch, his trigger is a toe tap forward to place his foot down while his hands move back slightly getting into a good hitting position. Utilizes good lower body rotation getting his hips cleared and using his whole-body frame in the swing process. Shows quick hands to the hitting zone with an upward lift barrel action throughout into a high one-handed finish. Demonstrated good plate coverage and line drive ability up the middle and to the pull side during batting practice round. Recorded an exit velocity of 88 MPH, a 6 MPH improvement from his previous best recorded mark of 82 MPH set in January 2017. Defensively-  Good approach and footwork getting to the baseball. Gets underneath well with an appropriate outfielder arm swing gaining momentum towards intended target. Crow hop mechanics are smooth going through the movement to get into a solid throwing position. Will only get better with added arm strength through future development. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 75 MPH, an 8 MPH improvement from his previously best recorded mark of 67 MPH set in January 2017. Overall a strong, young talented 2020 grad class prospect that coaches need to keep an eye on.
NY Travel Workout (January 16, 2017)

Thomas has a strong frame at 5-foot-9, 190 pounds. Recorded a time of 4.23 seconds from home to first base. Offensively- Begins with feet wider than shoulders with weight leaned over back leg. Hands are aligned above back shoulder with a bat wiggle. Uses a small stride as his hands lower. Weight begins to drift forward before hips become rotational. Hands are short to ball with extension through contact. Swing plane is flat throughout. Had an exit velocity of 82 MPH off of the tee. Line drive results with potential for some lift.  Defensively- Attacks ball with smooth actions. Fields ball outside his body with left foot forward. Uses a step behind crow hop to generate momentum for throws. Long and loose arm action. Had a positional throwing velocity of 67 MPH from the outfield.
