Spring 2019
Comitted to Robert Morris University from Jefferson CC (NY).
WNY Unsigned Senior Day (October 21, 2018)
Proportional frame with strong, stocky build at 6-foot, 220-pounds. Offensively – Upright stance with feet set just outside of shoulder width. Short, quick leg lift before getting into stride. Hands stay tight to the body during quick, compact swing. Noticeable bat speed produces loud contact when he connects. Stays within lower half and shows some adjustability with hitting actions. High, 2-handed finish. Remains balanced throughout. Defensively – Controlled footwork around the bag at 1b. Fields in wide base with upper body stacked over the ball. Quickly redirects feet to line up with target. Fluid exchange before getting into over the top release with clean, compact arm action
NY Games (June 27-29, 2016)
Scannell stands in at 6-foot; 220 pounds with a powerful frame. Thick and athletic body with opportunity to develop and become stronger moving into senior year. Offensively-Straight up approach with hands in front of back shoulder. On pitch trigger is a small step forward with a toe tap and hands moving back behind shoulder in a good hitting position. Bat path is short to the hitting zone and displays good swing plane through the hitting zone with high finish and great lower body rotation. Displayed an exit velocity of 90 mph which is a 7 mph improvement from Preseason All-State showcase in February. Can drive the gaps;line drive stroke. Defensively-Good footwork and approach. Moves well for a big strong athlete. Good arm swing getting into a throwing position. Moves well around the bag at first. Could improve footwork on picks coming from throws across diamond. Displayed a position velocity of 75 mph.
Preseason All-State (Feb. 28, 2016)
Scannel stands 6-foot, 220-pounds with a solid football player style frame.  With a thick lower half and a physical build he should see some good progress through the spring.  Offensively-  Sets up outside shoulder width and uses a small stride forward. Creates good separation up top and stayed compact through the zone.  The swing almost looked effortless and seems to have more in the tank.  Exit velocity was only at 82-mph this day but the ball was definitely jumping off his bat during live BP. Defensively- Zach moved real well for a big man and showed quick smooth arm action at first base.  His solid frame and power potential at the plate make him a very intriguing player to watch this spring and summer as he could certainly put some fear into a pitcher.
