Defensively- as an infielder, Smith displayed active footwork. Gets himself in a good position before fielding the baseball. Takes his time to gather himself when getting rid of the baseball.

6-foot, 150-pound, fast twitch athlete, shoulders squared off, longer neck. A right-handed hitting middle infielder, who plays quick off the blocks. Defensively, threw 74 mph across the diamond, from a natural slot, enough arm to stick on left side. The arm action is super clean, works with minimal effort. The hands are soft, fields out front, feet and hands are active, work well together. Solid starts and turns at short stop, can turn it from both sides of bag. Offensively, is balanced throughout, has an all fields approach, hard contact in batting practice. The swing is level through the zone, higher one-handed finish. The swing is short to contact, had a tee exit velocity of 75 mph with a ton more in there as he adds strength. Look for him to be able to defend at the next level.
