2/17/14
Balderson has steadily been making jumps over the past past couple of years, and he positioned himself as one of Northeast Ohio's top junior prospects at this event. While he doesn't offer a great deal of projectability, he is one of those guys that carries himself well and knows how to pitch. He throws through a high 3/4 arm slot with long arm action that shows some quickness. His fastball in the mid 80's and was up to 86 on several occasions with good late arm side run. More impressive, he showed command of multiple off-speed pitches including a 74-75 mph breaking ball with late 11/5 action and a changeup that is sold with good arm speed in the low 70's. The delivery requires a little bit of effort and he needs to work on maintaining direction with his lower half, but he is a definite follow this spring and summer.
7/29/13

Fastball sat at 82 mph and bumped up to 83. Showed occasional sink and consistently pounded the zone. Uses a 68 mph breaking ball with gradual 11/5 action. Also used a 65-68 mph changeup. Shows some fade to the pitch, but needs to maintain arm speed for full effectiveness. Defensively, moves well around the bag at first base. Quick transfer. Showed top velocity of 82 mph on his throws. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with a slightly open stance. Uses a leg kick in his load. Fluid swing with some quickness in the zone.
