Left-handed hitting catchers are premium and Steffen is a quality one. Very fluid athletic load, with rhythmic movements that create consistent energy. Impressive body control throughout swing process. Level path with both strength and speed to hands. Sprayed it to both gaps with a bit more intent/authority to pull side. Looked the part in BP. Also had a strong showing behind the dish. Rivaled Reed as the top defender of the day. An above average athlete back there that does all the little things well.

A lefty swinger with a quick bat. Loading sequence in fluid and he does a nice job of creating energy with his lower half. Path is level and swing is compact. Gets on plane early giving him a large margin for error in timing. Has the look of a three-hole guy. Defensively, he showed an advance skill set for his age. Starts in a balanced, athletic stance. Actions are easy and fluid. Takes quick jab stab and keeps momentum in line towards second base. Hands and transfer are quick to the ear with short arm action. Generated impressive pop times for his age. One of the top 2020 catchers that we have seen at this stage.
