A tall, lanky right-hander with a very projectable frame out of the Great Lake Canadians organization, Duffy started the opener for the 16u club. Duffy features a controlled. athletic delivery, with consistent tempo, minimal length in his arm swing and a repeatable ¾ arm slot. With a cross-fire landing, he located mostly arm-side, having trouble getting to his glove-side on this day. His stuff played well, he mixed in his breaking stuff effectively, using his 11/5 curve to record swings and misses when ahead of the count, while also using a fading changeup off of his fastball and away to left-handed hitters. Each of his offerings display ideal action, with room to get harder when he adds strength. It’s a starting pitcher profile at the next level, and with physical maturity, Duffy’s upside is high.
11/03/17
Duffy, a young and lean 2021 grad with feel on the mound and at short as a 6-foot, 140-pounder. At the plate, balanced setup with a small separation to launch position from left side, hands are back and in good position to hit. Small pickup of front foot and slight rock to backside, hands work well to contact and show bat speed for age through the zone. Defensively, moves through the ball and transfers were clean across the diamond. Fields everything outfront and in middle of body with proper actions. On the mound, good feel for strike zone and all three of his pitches. Repeats delivery and arm action is clean. Can involve more of lower half as the stride is somewhat short at the moment. Arm whip is there and should translate to more velocity as he matures and gets stronger. Topped out at 76 mph and the breaking ball is above average for his age. Does a lot of things right, will be interesting follow as the young Duffy is on the right track.
