Shields stands 6-foot-5 215-pounds with a great pitchers frame. He stays tall using a high knee lift and balanced over the rubber and drops some on his back leg moving forward. He uses proper shoulder alignment and throws from a high ¾ slot using a long arm action and plus extension. His fastball sat 87-89 mph with late jump and some run. He shows the ability to spin a curveball at 77 mph with 11/7 late hard shape. He needs to get over his front knee more on his finish.

1B/Hitting - At first base Shields moves quick off the bag, fields the ball out in front of his body, stays low and shuffles his feet towards his target. He has clean arm action from a high ¾ slot with above average 83 mph arm strength across the field. At the plate his setup is wide and balanced. He uses a back load and short leg lift for timing, his bat path is level through the zone, heads stays over the middle of his stance, extension after contact with a high finish. He generates 80 mph exit velocity.

8-13-14
Shields stands a physical 6-foot-5 215-pounds with a frame that could hold more. At the plate his approach is wide and hands are high. He gets great extension through contact, and showed that by hitting a home run to the right field gap 385 plus feet with a wood bat. His exit velocity was 83 mph off a tee with more in the tank. At 1B he shows good fielding actions, with a strong throwing arm at 83 mph across the field. On the mound he brings a physical presence standing 6-foot-5 and stays tall through the pitch. His fastball sits 86-90 mph with a clean arm action, loose, and late life. His breaking ball is between 74-78 mph showing the ability to spin a baseball. Changeup was 71-73 mph with some late deception.
