2017 grad listed at 6-foot-1, 225-pounds with current strength and sturdy frame. Defensively, sets up low and moves well on balls down in the zone, arm showed whip from 3/4 slot and has best pop time of the day at 1.95 and was 75 mph from the crouch down to second, throws were online and to the bag. Offensively, right-handed hitter, gears up and gets loaded into backside, showed some pop to pull side when he gets barrel out and is extended and on time, top exit velocity of Macdonald is 86 mph. Catcher with ability to receive and throw while adding a chance to have some value from the right side offensively.
60-Yard Dash: 7.64
Exit Velocity: 86
C Velocity: 75
Pop Time: 1.97
1/23/16
6-foot, 210-pound catcher with a bulky build. At the plate starts upright, hands start high, hips moves forward as the bat drags behind, more in the tank but still generates an 86 mph exit velocity, makes good contact, power to the pull side, cuts his swing off a bit, but finishes high. Behind the plate has very aggressive actions, moves through the ball on his throws to second, had a 2.06 pop time, ball jumps out of his hand, 73 mph velocity at max effort. MacDonald will need to fine tune a few traits behind the plate but has the foundation and base to grow on. Big time academic guy.
6/24/15
6-foot, 200-pound catcher with stocky frame and room to add strength gains. Offensively, started from open stance with hands up and some looseness in his swing. Some length in swing, stayed behind ball and made hard contact when he was on top with hands. Exit velocity was 77 mph. Behind the plate, Macdonald showed an accurate arm with carry to the bag as he was consistently between 2.06 and 2.25. Made two great throws in game, blocked well and was able to transfer in a hurry when needed.
