2.19.18 Van Rassel is a long and lean player, listed at 6-foot-5, 188-pounds with strength gains remaining. LEft-handed hitter with feel in the box, hits from a crouched stance and looks ti lift balls in the air with uphill path, working off his back side. It’s a small load back with his hands, and he does show some bat speed through the zone with a top exit velo at 86 mph. Profiles well at first base with size and length and showed the ability to pick it. Arm works across the diamond and was clocked at 83 mph. Worked out on the mound for the first time and there is some rawness with the arm slot and delivery. Given the size and how he throws the ball across the diamond, this is something that Van Rassel may want to continue to work with and see how the development plays out over time and reps.
11.3.17 6-foot-5 first baseman, ran abest 60 time of 7.54. Left-handed bat, sets up evenly spread in lower half, hands work back with load and aggressive in the zone with some bat speed, will cut off swing at times and lack extension through contact, strong with some barrel whip through the zone. Defends well at first, big target whow went down and picked some balls in the dirt, arm has looseness and whip to it, 80 mph across diamond, still think there is a chance to see him on the mound in the future with his size and arm actions.
4/15/17 Now 6-foot-5, and pushing 180- pounds, Van Rassel moved well in his 40-yard dash for size while showing body control around the bag at first with a loose arm that topped out at 80 mph in defensive work. Tall lean hitter who starts upright from the left side. Works to stay inside of ball with more a line drive approach. Exit velocity at 83 mph while showing some feel in the box as he gets separated on time for the most part. A 2018 who projects as he has plenty room to add size and strength, would also be interested to see him on the mound as well as his numbers have seen a significant boost in a few short months. Exit Velocity: 83 INF Velocity: 80
2/20/17 Tall and lean first baseman at 6-foot-4, 175-pounds. Moves well for a guy his size, especially on the defensive side of the field. Fielded the ball cleanly, footwork was proper, arm was clocked at 71mph across the diamond with a loose and easy feel, wonder what it would look like on the mound? At the plate, workable parts to his actions. Starts with his hands back, leg kick to load and keeps his balance. Looked to pull baseball during round, did show he could keep hands inside and use whole field. More of line drive approach but with an increase in strength and added loft to his swing he could develop power based on his size. 60-Yard Dash: 7.61 Exit Velocity: 77 INF Velocity: 71
