2/22/22

2023 RHP/SS Hunter Ballantyne was another intriguing 2023 arm at the New Year Open with a fastball that sat 80-81mph. 5-foot-10, 150-pounds and moves well on the mound. Feel for the strike with all of his pitches, including a CB at 63-65 and CH at 74-75mph. The Great Lakes Canadians product does a lot of things right on both sides of the ball and has continued to develop well over the past several years.

8/07/20

A young 2023 who worked out at third-base and on the mound, Ballantyne is listed at 5-foot-10, 145-pounds with room to carry more size and mature physically. At the plate, its a quiet setup and simple approach. He starts open and up on front foot with small load to stride, stays in his legs and balanced throughout, bat path is level and direct and worked gap-to-gap in BP. Can see him generating more in backside and tapping into some power down the road. Defensively made the plays at third, arm was accurate, would like to see more movement through the ball on the ground and fluidness in action but has chance to come in time. On the mound, the arm worked in the back, can drift with front side and lower half at times, there was strikes with the fastball and there was gradual depth with the curveball that 11/5 shape. Worked up in the zone for pen, a young 2023 with action and someone who is going to get better as the strength continues to grow.
