Mercer’s athleticism has been on display every time we’ve seen him and it was no different at State Games. Nimble mover at 5-foot-9, 150-pounds and makes fielding his position look easy with quick footwork and loose actions. Also showed value offensively, getting on-base and creating havoc on the basepaths all day long. It seemed every time we looked, Mercer was touching home plate again. Quick hands from the right-side of the plate that generate line drives to all fields, with plenty of room to add strength going forward. One of the sharper middle infielders in Ontario’s 2025 class.
6/26/23
Physical: 5-9, 150 pounds; Athletic, lean build. Offensively: RHH. Even setup, with feet just outside his shoulders; has a pre-pitch bat waggle. Short take back with the hands with an up and down stride for timing. Stays behind the ball while showing an average effort from the legs. Showed a direct swing path with a late one hand finish. More flyballs than line drives and groundballs with a peak exit velocity of 86 MPH via Trackman. Defensively: Starts with a low to the ground setup; walks into ready position while showing active feet. Hands are out in front while funneling to the hip before transfer. Short take back from a high 3/4 arm slot. INF - 85 MPH.
11/25/22
Mercer was one of the best athletes on the infield in Ottawa. Athletic actions with proper footwork with clean hands and an arm that works across the diamond at 78mph. In the box, Mercer works to his pull side with a consistent loud contact. Top exit velocity of 86.1mph with some sneaky power and top distance of 284ft. Mercer will be on the scene for a few more years and is an athletic infielder to have on your radar.
