3/11/19

Douglas, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound infielder was the story of the week at Spring Training. Douglas displayed impressive power and did so consistently, taking advantage of anything hittable. On day two, Douglas hit the first and only home run by a Canadian player, sending a pitch over the fence by a mile. He later followed up with a loud double in the gap, one of many. Douglas’ improved athleticism was evident as he ran a 7.02 60 yard dash, and with strength which led to a 95 mph exit velocity, Douglas is an uncommitted bat to watch closely.

Douglas, a 2019 grad with present strength had an outstanding week down in Florida at Spring Training. Biggest tool is the power he currently has, as he drove balls all week into the gap to go along with a no-doubt HR to left field down the line. There will be some swing and miss that comes with it, but Douglas has a chance to hit and be a run produce while there is upside and room to add polish to his swing/offensive side. Definite guy who would be a nice addition at this time, and someone who could really jump after a strong summer and continued at-bats.

3/26/17
Douglas was impressive during his batting practice round with the ability to get the barrel flat through the zone and produced hard contact. Behind the dish, received well, minimal movement, was a little out front and off balance on his throws from the crouch, still room to generate more from lower half and strengthen arm. Ran well down the line at 4.39 from the right side. Long wingspan and strength with looseness in swing, Douglas will look to fine tune some things defensively as we approach the season.

2/20/17
2018 right-handed hitting catcher at 5-foot-11, 170-pounds with some current muscle to frame. Ran a 7.28 in the 60 with regular effort. Defensively, lost momentum on throws to second, transfer was long and didn't get arm into proper slot, had trouble getting carry to ball, reps on transfers and arm slot will play dividends for Douglas as his best pop time was 2.27 with a velocity of 71 mph from the crouch. At the plate, slightly open stance in crouched position, small arm bar in load, worked to get bat path flat to baseball, best swings were when he went straight back up the middle, at times timing would have him out front, when balanced and controlled he flashed signs hard contact and a top exit velocity of 89 mph. With his body type, some mechanical adjustments could play big role for Douglas as he moves into spring/summer 2017.
