Marks is a premier strike-thrower, with a 61-4 K-BB mark in 51.2 innings dating back to the start of 2020, and he filled up the zone with three quality pitches on Friday, holding Campbell to three hits over seven shutout innings while striking out 10. A physical 6-foot-2, 220-pound righthander with a high three-quarters slot, Marks ran his fastball up to 95-96 mph early in the game and pitched comfortably at 91-94 throughout his 103-pitch outing. His heater has some sinking action that helps him rack up groundball outs, and he can land his 79-82 mph slider for a strike at will. The slider isn’t a wipeout power pitch and it can get slurvish at times, but it has tight, late tilt when he’s really got it going, as he did in the fourth inning, when he struck out the side in order using the slider as the putaway pitch on all three. He also mixes in a useful 80-83 slider with solid fade and fair deception, and he showed enough feel to get an occasional right-on-right swing-through with the pitch. One could envision Marks someday settling in as a back-end big league starter who throws strikes with three MLB-average pitches, if he can add a bit more power to his slider. (Fitt)

Right-handed arm with three pitches in repertoire. Fastball works between 82-85 mph for strikes. Mixes in both curveball and changeup that he shows feel for and ability to throw for strikes. Breaking ball sits 70-74 mph while changeup is 74-78 mph. Competes well and works down in zone, keeping pitch count low and attacking hitters. Delivery is easy and repeatable, not much effort involved and with frame of 6-foot-1, 170-pounds, Marks will only add size and strength as he looks to contribute as a freshman at USC.
