The right-hander out of Burlington has made big strides over the year and is someone schools need to be on as the look to round out their 20’ class. Matteson has jumped 6-8 mph over the year with his fastball which was 86-88 mph, the slider showed some tilt and mixed in a splitter as well. There is some effort, but it’s good effort and only upside with Matteson moving forward.
Matteson is a 6-foot-2, 180-pound right-hander out of Burlington with a clean arm from 3/4 slot and present wiry strength with broad shoulders and room to add more size moving forward. Worked in the 78-80 range with fastball, threw strikes and can see velocity ticking up in time. Slow curveball with gradual break and 11/5 shape. Ability to maintain arm speed and polish secondary stuff will be key for Matteson moving forward. The body projects while the arm works, one to keep an eye on moving forward.
