Hewitt is listed at 5-foot-10, 165-pounds but plays like he is 6-foot-4, 210-pounds. The infielder shows smooth hands and proper footwork, moves well through the ball and can play all three infield spots. Gets rid of it with a quick transfer and was clocked at 83 mph across the diamond. Also, Hewitt can go behind the plate. He receives well and arm is quick with carry on the ball at 76 mph from behind the dish. Hewitt swings from the left side with a leg kick to load and transfers his weight well. More power to pull side, projects as gap to gap hitter at next level. Exit velocity was 84 mph and shows good hand eye contact, line drive approach in game. Solid 2016 grad.
4/4/15
5-foot-10, 165-pounds with room to add size and strength. Hewitt, a primary shortstop, showed well as a catcher too. Max’s soft hands and clean, quick transfers translated into a 1.94 pop time to go along with a 74 mph from behind the dish. Max had good lateral movement when blocking balls and as able to receive well with some softness and quiet hands. From shortstop, Hewitt was 80 mph across the infield from his ¾ arm slot while showing confident, relaxed hands. Took good routes and made all the plays, would drag toes at times on his approach. Offensively, uses a small leg kick to stride, hands are back and relaxed, used a compact stroke with average bat speed while staying balanced and showing good barrel control. Incorporates lower half well. exit velocity was 83 mph, more in the tank. Good actions all around for Hewitt, could be valuable piece to the right college program with his versatility and left-handed bat.
