Hitman is a 5-foot-11, 1705-pound 2B/C from Pope John Paul II. He was an honorable mention All-Area performer as a sophomore.
6/17/15 5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitter. Simple approach at the plate, body and head stay still throughout swing. Starts slightly open, takes short stride to square and has some gap power (88-mph exit velo). Blue-collar kid with limited reps behind the plate due to playing infield in high school. Due to injury sustained on glovehand, did not participate in defensive workout, but posted an in-game best pop time of 2.12. Injury also inhibited ability to swing the bat his last plate appearance, but ran a 4.00 home-to-1B time on a drag bunt.
5/19/15 Medium-frame right-handed hitter who starts slightly open with a relaxed set-up and strides to square. Swing can get shouldery at times, but has a feel for the barrel. Playing shortstop for HS team out of necessity, but will likely shift behind the plate at the next level.
2/15/15 Hitman, the starting second baseman on PJP's state championship team last spring, is starting to put in work behind the plate as well. He was relaxed and exhibited minimal body movement when receiving, while showing some feel for blocking as well. He should be able to lower his pop time by getting his feet started sooner, so they sync with his exchange. At the plate, Hitman starts slightly open and strides to square with minimal hand load. He has very good balance, takes a short path to the ball and repeats his swing.
