5/20/15 The South Carolina football commit at quarterback is an athletic freak. Recorded 99- and 96-mph exit velos. Ran a 4.10 home-to-1B from the right side and, for good measure, followed it up with a 4.06. Swing has added looseness since last seen. Plenty of arm from the outfield.
6/5/14 McIlwain started on the mound for CR North. Out of a high-3/4 slot with an abbreviated arm action, he worked 79-81 with his FB, topping at 83. The pitch had occasional one-plane armside action. McIlwain's bread-and-butter are his secondary pitches. He featured a cutter at 75-76 with late, darting action and a 70-72 CB that was his go-to pitch when he needed a big out. A highly-coveted quarterback with over a dozen scholarship offers from high-profile football programs, McIlwain has a tendency to muscle the ball to the plate, but, for the most part, competed in the strike zone.
