Notes

Comments

8/10/21

Physical: Projectable, seasoned 5-foot-10, 190lb frame. 7.38 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Offensively: RHH - Balanced, slightly open stance as the hands operated flat, in-rhythm on the shoulder. Utilized a toe-tap stride to initiate his swing through a flat, rotational path into the zone. Created good separation, driving the ball with a distinct pull-side approach. The hips could work across his body at times, producing increased lift (36% line drive rate via Trackman) and a near 300 foot batted ball distance at his peak. Developing bat to ball skills and a T91 mph bat-exit velocity, good enough for doubles juice on occasion.

Defensively: The primary backstop was a solid defender, starting out of a balanced, traditional setup in the crouch. Pop times ranged from 1.98-2.08 with pre-catch rhythm as he got off the backside with some explosiveness through release (quick ¾ slot, 77 mph arm, accurate). Nifty blocker as well, shifting the hips around pitches with down angles.

6/13/21

Physical: Well put together, muscular/athletic frame (5-foot-10, 190lbs). 7.45 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Offensively: RHH - Rhythmic, open stance with some bounce to the setup; utilized a controlled leg hang that worked directionally out towards the pitcher, initiated the hands through a flat path into the hitting zone. Generated natural lift up through impact creating a lofty approach towards the LCF gap for extra-bases. Posted an impressive 55% line drive rate via Trackman Baseball with tangible rotational strength. Notched a standout 95 mph bat-exit velocity during his batting practice round and posted a near 320 foot batted ball distance. Projects to be a middle of the order bat with repeated bat to ball skills showing in the actions.

Defensively: Above-average defender with advanced receive showing off a soft glove hand at the catch. Pop times dipping as low as 2.00 with strong 74 mph arm strength on the bag. Accurate throws with carry on occasion and then flashed easy blocking abilities reading down angle out of the hand with anticipation.

2/13/21

Physical: 5-foot-10, 190LBS. Muscular, athletic build. 7.64SEC 60-Yard Dash.

Offensively: RHH. Feet begin shoulder width apart and hands near ear. The hands work into a strong bow and arrow load in a smooth, fluid manner. During the load the lower half transfers weight onto the backside and uses a leg hang for timing. Swings with an uphill barrel path and looks to launch. Hits into a firm front side.

Defensively: Primary catcher. Shows quality hip mobility and ability to move around in the squat. Received out of a 1 knee set up while throwing from a 2 knee up stance. Uses slight pre catch momentum during the catch & throw process. Transfers at chest height. Right foot gets in the ground quickly and sets up an efficient drive towards 2B. Has some disconnect at times leading to errant throws, yet a quality base is there to build on.

2/29/20

Demonstrated feel for a physical 5-foot-10, 180-pound frame. The right-handed hitter begins with a balanced, even stance utilizing a leg-hang to initiate a slightly uphill barrel path into the hitting zone. Hit behind the ball well with feel for extension, staying through the ball generating backspin to all fields. Displayed fluidity in the lower half while hitting into a stiff front side yielding natural lift to the pull side during batting practice. Recorded an 87 mph bat-exit velocity and ran a 7.57 60-yard dash. The primary backstop showed off adequate receiving skills with minimal glove hand and body movement at the catch point. Pop times ranged from 2.19-2.28 on accurate throws of 73 mph from the crouch out of a high ¾ arm-slot, using adequate straight line footwork and transfers to create repeatability in his actions. Showcased comfortability while blocking, beating the ball to the spot creating soft walls on both sides of the plate.

1/14/18

Defensively, shows soft hands in receiving. Benefit would be gained from staying square and increasing trunk angle in blocking. Transfer is clean and feet work well while recording POP time of 2.39.

Offensively, swing is initiated from a neutral set up and stride staying neutral. Excellent separation is present. There is solid balance and rhythm. Swing is short with hands working directly to the baseball. The bat is on plane early and late. Leverage is demonstrated to the baseball and extension through. Mattocks recorded a bat exit velocity of 79 mph and has the makings of a developing above average offensive player.
