1/20/14 Despite a hitch that creates some length, Smith exhibited a fairly smooth stroke with some bat speed and the ball came off his bat well when he stayed through contact. The left-handed hitter's hands worked well allowing him to consistently barrel the baseball with a bat exit velocity of 78 mph. Smith showed an aggressive approach and stayed behind the baseball to allow his hands to work.
1/26/13 Smith showed very solid pop times for a freshman at 2.18-2.22 on throws of 66 mph. The 5-foot-9, 155-pound left-handed hitter has good rhythm to his swing and he clears the hips well allowing his hands to work. Smith showcased a bat exit velocity of 72 mph and shows the potential to be a quality hitter.
