9/13/15 5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitter. Starts from an open stance and strides to slightly closed. Aggressive approach in the strike zone and is an above average runner (4.29 home-to-1B). Defensively, he exhibited a quality skill set and made a nice play at second base on a slow roller toward the 4-hole. Also showed well on the mound with a fastball topping at 86-mph (full report coming later this week).
9/13/15 5-foot-10, 170-pounder who attacks hitters out of a high three-quarter slot with a short, quick arm action. Pounded zone with a solid two-pitch combo. Fastball sat 81-83 and had some life up to 86, while slider was 74-75 with late darting action. Profiles as bullpen arm right now until he develops a third pitch, but slider has a chance to induce weak contact in that role.
2/14/15 Collings hits from a square stance with a medium-length stride and minimal load. If he can get his barrel in position to travel a shorter distance (he currently holds the bat horizontal to the ground over his shoulder, creating a long path for him to get into the zone), he will better be able to tap into his very good bat speed. Defensively, Collings moves well, exhibiting good feet and hands accompanied by an accurate arm.
5/12/14 Collings utilizes a high-3/4 slot, short arm action with quick arm. Some funk in wind-up. FB 79-80 with occasional cut. Slurvy CB at 68-69. Separates hands late and off midline, but arm speed helps him compensate. Threw lots of strikes with both pitches. Given arm speed, athleticism (ran a 4.29 home-to-1B on a banana route inside the baseline), and future strength gains, there should be more to come from him. Coach describes him as a baseball rat.
