Andrew Hoover was spectacular last year for Sullivan South, helping lead them to a sub-state appearance. They'll transition into a new school at West Ridge while also moving from 2A to 4A. Hoover pitches it in the low 80s and can mix effectively while also being a power bat in the middle of the order from the left side. They'll be matched up with reigning champ Science Hill in their district plus other contenders, so the "new kids on the block" will rely on Hoover to repeat his magic from last season to guide them.
6/24/20
6-foot-2, 170-pound proportional frame. At the plate, Hoover recorded an exit velocity of 82 mph. Began in a balanced stance with a wrapping tight load, then used a short stride before his swing. Bat speed is quick, exhibits uphill swing plane and high finish. During his round he produced some loud contact and found lots of barrels. Gap to gap approach. Average in the outfield, his best throws to the infield topped out at 77 mph; shows a packing exchange, average feet and sure hands. Decent accuracy to the bases, used a consistent arm action with a low ¾ slot. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.19. Above average on the mound, showing quick arm speed he used a ¾ arm angle and a loose arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows easy effort. Showed strong balance point and in line shoulders. Lands square with a falling off finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 77-79 mph; had consistent command and slight action with heavy movement. Throws a straight changeup (69-70) with sporadic control. Throws a 1/7 curveball (59-61) that shows command around the zone and gradual action.
