6-foot-2, 165-pound, RHP is a strike-thrower, recorded 2 strikeouts in 2.2 innings. Medium, athletic frame w/ lean strength, lot of projection. Pitches from the full wind-up with a short rocker step into drive foot set on rubber. Hip turn w/ hip drive and ¾ release point. Some deception to RHH’s. Repeats and arm is on time consistently. FB shows occasional arm side run w/ occasional sink. Occasional straight. SL is a slurve, flashes as a medium downer CB at times, ¾ tilt SL at other times. Gets big, early breaker. CH w/ armspeed, occasional fade and sink. Above average control, throws a lot of strikes, developing command. Generated 3 of 16 swing and misses (19 %). An interesting arm to watch from a good program.
6/15/16 - 60 Time: 7.45, Position Velocity: OF-77, Exit Velocity: 79 6'1, 155-pound, RHH hits from a relatively tall and even stance and uses a long stride and a minimal amount of hand movement to get himself loaded and ready to go. Lower half tries to do the right things but often stays too tall and leans a little forward to keep him from really being able to gain leverage through his backside. Swing is armsy and comes through the zone on a steep path, keeps body over the ball and prevents himself from getting behind it and driving through it, should gain some bat speed and pop with the addition of a little body strength. Defensively, showed decent hands with some average footwork through his approach to and fielding of the ball, picks it up a bit differently and much less efficiently on the left side of his body and uses a clean exchange and a long arm action through a high ¾ slot to get the ball in from the outfield.
6/15/16 - Max FB: 75, FB: 73-75, CB: 60-61, CH: 60, 6'1, 155-pound, RHP starts his motion by facing the plate and stepping to the side with his rocker step to turn his body into a rhythmic leg lift, gets closed but comes back open very soon after, showed a long arm action through a high ¾ release point and some effort, landed open and pulled himself toward the 1B line throughout his follow through. Fastball stayed straight and was left up in the zone a few times, curveball showed some decent 11/5 action and was pretty consistent. Better alignment and some added strength could help Smith tremendously.
