5-foot-10, 190-pound, RHP needed just 18 pitches to work two innings. Medium, sturdy frame w/ some present lower half strength, some upper half projection. Pitches from a full wind-up into H ¾ to ¾ release from the first base side of the rubber. Quiet, repeatable delivery, maintains his tempo. Can get a little stronger with the front side to help his direction to the plate. Straight FB shows occasional short arm-side run. Medium downer CB w/ proper shape and rotation, works best as a get-me over pitch to steal a strike. CH w/ arm-speed, short fade and sink. Flashes above average w/ late sink. Weak contact pitch. Strike-thrower with his 3-pitch mix, projects to command.
5-foot-10, 190-pound, RHH showed intriguing two-way ability, showing some pull power in BP. Medium, sturdy frame w/ some present lower half strength, some upper half projection. Offensively, hits w/ a straight on, slightly crouched stance w/ short hand rhythm into shift of weight, leg kick and proper load. Generates bat speed through the zone. Lot of moving parts, but maintains still head to give him some barrel feel. Projectable pull power, just missed a pitch in game. Defensively, moves well at 1B w/ solid feet around the bag and carry to target arm strength.
5-foot-10, 195-pound, RHP showed his typical 3 pitch mix for strikes. Medium, athletic frame w/ some present lower half strength, some physical projection. Pitches from a full wind-up into H ¾ release from the first base side of the rubber. Rock and fire like delivery w/ lot of limbs coming at you. Appears to almost jump at hitters, deceptive. Straight FB shows occasional arm-side run. Big downer CB has gotten loopier since we’ve seen in the past, flashes a tighter one at times. CH w/ arm-speed, fade and sink. Around the zone w/ his 3-pitch mix, projects to command.
5-foot-10, 195-pound, RHH showed big bat speed. Medium, athletic frame w/ some present lower half strength, some physical projection. Offensively, hits w/ a straight on, upright stance w/ short hand rhythm into shift of weight, leg kick and power load. Rhythm based hitter generates above average bat speed through the zone. Learning to repeat and stay on time. When synced up, shows ability to punish a baseball. Present pull power w/ projectable power up the middle. Defensively, shows solid hands and a long release at third base w/ carry to target arm strength.
5-foot-10, 195-pound, RHP shows deceptive delivery w/ swing and miss off-speed stuff. Short, stocky frame w/ physical lower half. Close to mature w/ some upper body projection remaining. Pitches from a full wind-up w/ short rocker step into plant foot being set. Balance point into hip drive and H ¾ release w/ finish and falling off to first base side. Deceptive w/ a lot of limbs coming at the hitter to distract eyes. Can get too far to first base side at times, will fall down rubber instead of drive. Quick arm. Straight FB w/ occasional ride through the zone. Flashes short arm side run. Tight CB w/ late break. Average depth w/ proper shape, rotation. CH generated 75 % swing and miss (3 of 4). Arm speed w/ late fade, sink. Pulls the string. Uses as put-away pitch to righties and lefties. Feel for throwing strikes, projects to pitch w/ intent. Generated 39 % swing and miss overall (7 of 18). An interesting arm to catch this spring.
5'10, 165-pound, RHH hits from a balanced and even stance and keeps his hands low, uses a very short stride and some rhythmic movement with his hands to get loaded. Lower half glides forward and holds his backside from really getting through the zone, starting with low hands helps him stay flat through the zone and hit a couple balls hard in BP. Defensively, shows average hands and footwork in his approach to the ball, didn’t quite work through the ball like we’d like to see, exchange was long and led to a long arm action from an over-the-top release point, arm strength was okay.
6/14/16 - Max FB: 82, FB: 80-82, CB: 65-67, CH: 70,
5'10, 165-pound, RHP made quick work of his only inning on the mound, filled up the strike zone and competed very well, good rhythm in his motion leads to a very long arm action through a high ¾ to over-the-top arm slot, good use of lower half throughout delivery that uses quite a bit of effort and causes him to fall to the first base side after release. Some slight run on his fastball makes it an effective pitch, as it was thrown consistently for strikes on both sides of the plate, curveball was tight and broke at an 11/5 angle for strikes. Elkins stuck out 2 of the 3 hitters he faced and showed a lot of potential on the mound.
