4/06/20
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound catcher/third baseman has some top-notch raw power. After a strong Top Prospect Games in June, Combs improved across the board in late January cleaning up some areas of his game and still bringing the power to the table (Exit Velo: 97). Combs can drive the ball to all gaps while getting on plane early leading to consistent hard line drives. His pop time continues to dwindle down below 2.00 and his arm strength continues to develop. Projects to be an offensive C/3B at the next level, providing solid value at both positions.

6-foot-1, 200-pound tall, strong, well built frame. Offensively, shows good presence in the box and displayed an exit velo of 90. Setup was very balanced and athletic. Showed high bat speed out front and gap to gap power. Had a tendency to lose posture in negative move affecting his balance. When right he is projectably a high slugging catcher at the next level. Behind the plate flashed a sub 2.0 pop time with a very impressive arm. Moved very efficiently during throwdowns and supported a quick transition and solid glove action. Player to follow.

60: 7.67, IF Velo: 66, C Velo: 71, Pop Time: 2.03-2.10, Exit Velo: 92
6-0, 190-pound catcher showed off his offensive improvement compared to this time last year, highlighted by the 92 mile per hour exit velo, which included only one exit velo under 90. Prototypical catcher frame, medium, athletic frame w/ some present lower half strength, projectable, has just begun to get to his frame potential. Offensively, hits w/ a straight on, slightly crouched stance w/ short stride and load. Still head, shows ability to find the barrel. Learning how to utilize his lower half consistently, got into his rhythm deeper into his BP round and made loud contact. Learning to repeat his swing, can get over-rotational at times. Projectable pull power. As a receiver, drops to one knee, presents a good low target w/ quiet glove. Strong forearms, shows ability to stick the baseball. Showed ability to handle velocity on this day, was not overwhelmed by high 80’s. Has an idea of how to frame the baseball, learning to beat breaking stuff to the spot consistently. High level receiving tools. As a thrower, shows quick release w/ good footwork w/ a slightly cocking of the hands in his throwing motion w/ projectable carry to target arm strength. Profiles best as a catcher, showed solid hands at 3B w/ carry to target arm strength.

5-foot-11, 180-pound, RHH shows advanced skill-set for a player entering their freshman year of high school. Short, athletic, well-proportioned frame w/ some present strength, some projection. Offensively, hits from a straight on, slightly crouched stance w/ back shoulder hand location. Shift of weight, short stride and proper load. Explodes through the baseball. Can get long and off-balance, will improve w/ reps. When on time and on plane, has a high offensive upside. As a catcher, presents a good low target, but can show it earlier and bigger, as big part of the glove is angled downwards. Quiet behind the plate. Just needs reps catching above average stuff to profile as above average receiver. As a thrower, shows average release w/ short arm swing and solid feet. Arm strength will improve with maturation. On the infield, shows soft hands w/ solid feet and plays through the ball well.
