6/12/18 - Home-1st: 5.03, Pop Time: 2.00-2.06, Position Velocity: C-74, Exit Velocity: 92
6-foot-0, 195-pound, RHH shows big power w/ patient approach, saw 33 pitches in 7 plate appearances. Medium, athletic frame w/ physical lower half, some upper half projection. Prototypical catcher build. Offensively, hits w/ an open, upright stance w/ short hand rhythm into leg kick to slightly open and proper load. Generates premium bat speed through the zone. Learning to consistently control his lower half, landing open creates the pull-oriented approach and has him come off the baseball at times, creating some swing and miss. When he learns to stay through the baseball with his hips, will unlock another 15-20 feet of carry. Selectively aggressive approach w/ idea of his strike zone, will take his walks. Power ahead of average right now, but its above average power with potential to be to all fields as lower half gets consistent. Ball makes a different sound off his bat. Projectable below average runner, should not be a clogger. Defensively, needs to present a target for his pitcher early and consistently, presented an occasional knee-high target late. Will give him more ability to frame above his already high level receiving tools. Strong hands w/ ability to stick the baseball, manipulate strikes. Moves well behind the plate, boxes the baseball. As a thrower, shows more arm strength than positional velocity shows. Shows solid release w/ good footwork, carry to target arm strength w/ around the bag accuracy.
6/13/17 - H-1B: 4.79, Position Velocity: 69, Exit Velocity: 88, Pop Time: 1.99-2.10
5’11, 175-pound, RHH shows a ton of confidence and has a fluidity about his swing that seems to just come naturally. Jones uses an abbreviated leg kick and a long and smooth stride to get loaded and create some good rhythm headed into contact. His swing plane comes through the zone at a slight uphill angle and his lower half drives through to create some positive separation. He gets extension through contact and creates some lift at the end of his swing. Jones has gap power and the projectability to continue adding on. Defensively, he is efficient with his footwork and his exchange, using a high ¾ release point to get rid of the ball and create some carry. His hands are pretty good when he’s actually focused. Certainly a guy to continue keeping an eye on.
12/10/16 - 60 Time: 7.54, Pop Time: 2.03-2.21, Position Velocity: C-73, IF-77, Exit Velocity: 88
5-foot-11, 175-pound, RHH hits from a balanced and open stance and begins with his bat rested just above his shoulder, rhythmic stride turned into an abbreviated leg kick by the end of his round, used a smooth movement back with his hands to get loaded, lower half explodes and creates a ton of separation, generates a lot of his batspeed from his lower half, swing plane is flat through the zone and has the ability to create some lift at the end, gap-to-gap pop. Defensively, showed good hands and above average footwork behind the plate, exchange was quick and clean and led to a short arm action through an over-the-top release point, throws had solid carry, showed versatility by participating at 3B.
