9/7/17 - 5-11, 185-pound catcher. Righty hitter hits from a straight on, slightly crouched w/ back shoulder hand location. Shift of weight, leg kick and short hand load. Lands open. Above avg bat speed in gap to gap oriented approach. Defensively, presents good target w/ quiet movements. Soft hands w/ feel for framing. Advanced defender. Tennessee commit.
7/5/17 - 60 Time: 7.60, Pop Time: 1.96-2.00, Position Velocity: C-76, IF-77, Exit Velocity: 84 5-11, 185-pound, RHH hits from a balanced and even stance and begins in an athletic position, uses an abbreviated leg kick and stride with some rhythm, stays wide and strong, swing plane is flat to slightly up through contact, gap-to-gap approach. Defensively, showed solid footwork and soft hands behind the plate, efficient exchange and arm action get the ball to second cleanly, also showed ability to play an infield position. Finished game play 2-3 with a double. Earned a spot on the Future Games team.
1/16/17 - 60 Time: 7.51, Pop Time: 1.98-2.09, Position Velocity: C-81, IF-81, Exit Velocity: 84 5-foot-10, 180-pound, RHH hit from a more narrow and upright stance than we have seen from him at past events, has developed a leg kick and stride that he combines with some rhythmic movement in his hands that cocks the barrel to get loaded, lower half is very engaged and fires early to create some good separation, swing plane flat to slightly up through the zone and allows him to really drive the ball much better than he has in the past, has some gap power developing. Defensively, continues to show very good hands and quick footwork behind the plate, exchange is efficient and allows him to get rid of the ball quickly through a short arm action from an over-the-top slot, arm strength has made a jump, has the hands and footwork to play in the infield as well. Every area of his game continues to improve.
10/16/16 - Home-1st: 5.01, Pop Time: 2.00-2.12, Position Velocity: IF - 81, C - 75, Exit Velocity: 83 5-foot-11, 175-pound, RHH hits from a balanced and more even stance than we saw from him at the Top Prospect Games in June, uses a smooth and fluid movement back with a barrel tilt and an abbreviated leg kick and stride to get loaded, lower half fires initially but doesn’t quite get his hips totally cleared until the very end of his swing, stays balanced and strong throughout, bat path begins slightly steep but flattens out through the ball to promote a line drive approach. Defensively, showed soft hands and quite but efficient footwork behind the plate, short and clean arm action gets rid of the ball with decent carry to second base, good enough hands to be able to play third base as well. Preston worked deep into counts and tallied a single and 2 walks in game play.
6/14/16 - 60 Time: 7.63, Pop Time: 1.87-2.25, Position Velocity: C-74, Exit Velocity: 82 5'10, 180-pound, RHHhits from an athletic, balanced, and open stance and uses a strong and rhythmic stride and hand load to get himself in position to hit. Lower half works well but starts a little late at times, when he gets separation his bat speed improves tremendously is able to really drive the ball, does a good job of using back side to get his barrel on plane and through the ball, has the ability to hit to all fields, some power may come later on. Defensively, controls the game very well, shows good hands and a clean exchange to get rid of the ball through an over-the-top release, consistently accurate throws on the bag. Preston came up early on a few of his throws to second when recording pop times. Good player that should continue to develop.
1/18/16 - 5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitter hits from a very balanced stance and uses a slow and smooth load and mini leg kick to get himself in a good position to hit from, could use lower half a little better but stays balanced and keeps the barrel in the zone, produced a 76 mph exit velocity off the tee, could develop some very good pop with age and maturity. Defensively, showed 2.09-2.15 pop times and 74 mph position velocity behind the plate, average hands and footwork from both the infield and catcher positions, has room to improve quickness of release that will result in improved pop times moving forawd, showed 77 mph arm strength across the infield, young player with some very good potential and well above average arm strength for age. Also ran a 8.03 60-yard dash.
