Derek Martinez, Pieper (TX), 2025 Positional Profile: C/2B Player showing tools with opportunities to adjust and improve. Can add strength. Like the upside to the bat in future. Body: 5-10, 164-pounds. Good build/frame to add strength in future. Hit: RHH. Solid set up with knees past shoulder width to start, shifts weight into back leg to initiate stride, some length to stride, lands in solid position to hit. Slight linear movement to back foot, does a nice job of using lower 1/2. Could improve efficiency of lower 1/2 with driving foot forward more with linear movement. Hands/barrel in good launch position. Pull swing at times, lacks consistent barrel control on outer 1/2 pitches. Can improve using all fields and work to stay on top of pitches away with barrel. 66.5 mph bat speed with 10 G's of rotational acceleration. Power: 90 max exit velocity, averaged 80.3 mph. 310' max distance. Hit over power. Like the swing components, will hit for solid avg with adjustments. Pull side power will develop with added strength. Arm: RH. C-78 mph. Arm works, raw arm strength and arm quickness can improve with throwing program. Defense: 1.97-2.08 pop times. Receives well. Solid footwork setting feet to throw. Pop times are solid with quickness to exchange/release. ATH: 7.58 runner in the 60. Hard runner. 29.80 max vertical. Vizual Edge: 60.83 Edge Score

Positional Profile: C/2B Martinez is a scrappy player that showed a strong arm and glove behind the plate. His swing shows a simple and effective approach to stay in the middle of the field on a line. Body: 5-6, 140-pounds. Hits: RHH. 50/50 stance with toe tap load trigger. Hands stay at shulder height through load, pretty level swing, line drive apperoach. Power: 85 max exit velocity, averaged 76.3 MPH. 278' max distance. Martinez shows a pretty level swing with an approach to hit the ball hard on a line or on the ground. Arm: RH. C-77 mph. Showed a quick arm and transfer with accurate throws that carry to the bag well. Defense: 2.07-2.11 pop times. Showed a clean, quick transfer and solid pop time. Plus receiving. Run: 7.72 runner in the 60. Vizual Edge: 54.59 Edge Score

Martinez won't blow you away with his stature but he is an absolute ball player. The undersized catcher standing 5-foot-4, 115-pounds was a natural at receiving and blocking throughout the day. He showed a calm setup with an innate ability to handle all different types of arms that were much older. Martinez showed the ability to block the ball both to the right and left, as well as smother the ball in front of him. We look forward to seeing the young backstop continue to develop into a quality ball player down the road.
