San Antonio Preseason ID - Quick Hits

Phil Haig
Texas Scouting Director

San Antonio, TX - On Sunday, January 16th, we hosted the San Antonio Preseason ID at Cornerstone Christian HS. The event featured quality players from all high school classes. There were familiar faces, as well as a few prospects we were able to see for the first time. below we break down some of the notable prospects in attendance

+ FULL STAT SHEET

Jackson Baker RHP / RHP / Lake Travis, TX / 2023

The wiry 6-foot-1 Baker was more than impressive on the day showing a strong fastball/slider mix, as well as a workable changeup as his third pitch. The Alabama commit was controlled through his delivery and repeated it well, also showing a quick arm, throwing from a low ¾ slot. The slot allows his FB/SL combo to work quite well together. The fastball averaged 89.2 mph on the day, with late arm side action, while the slider worked at 74-75 mph tunneling well with the fastball. There was a lot to like at an early look at another premium arm out of Lake Travis High School.

Derek Martinez C / 2B / PIeper, TX / 2025

Martinez won't blow you away with his stature but he is an absolute ball player. The undersized catcher standing 5-foot-4, 115-pounds was a natural at receiving and blocking throughout the day. He showed a calm setup with an innate ability to handle all different types of arms that were much older. Martinez showed the ability to block the ball both to the right and left, as well as smother the ball in front of him. We look forward to seeing the young backstop continue to develop into a quality ball player down the road.

Jaime Lopez SS / RHP / PSJA, TX / 2024

Came out of gates with a 6.84 60-yard dash, and showed plenty of ability on the infield to make you think he can stay there at the next level. Lopez was 82 across the diamond and that will surely only improve as he continues to add strength. At the dish, Lopez showed a simple balanced setup, staying in the middle of the field his entire round and didn’t try to do too much. There is a lot to like about the middle infielder from the valley.

Cameron Anderson SS / OF / Cornerstone Christian, TX / 2023

Anderson showed an all around game on the day. The uncommitted 23 ran a 7.08 on the day, threw 89 mph from the OF and showed more than enough ability to hit during BP. Anderson bounced around all day showing his natural athleticism and the ability to play multiple positions. The arm shined a bit more from the OF but also showed the ability to have sound hands and feet around the ball playing on the infield. During BP, Anderson shows an athletic setup with a repeatable swing, hitting multiple hard line drives to the LCF gap. Look for Anderson to contribute to a strong Cornerstone Christian lineup this year.

Kaleb Rogers RHP / OF / Reagan, TX / 2025

Rogers was one of the young standouts on the day, he worked out all around the field showing his natural athleticism and ability to play the game. Rogers stood out the most on the mound at the event. The 2025 arm topped out at 83 and showed some natural athleticism down the mound. Rogers is far from a finished product but shows a lot to like moving forward.

Solomon James RHP / OF / Duncanville , TX / 2022

James put on a show during the BP portion of the day. The uncommitted OF/P showed a flat stroke that produced backspin line drives with plenty of juice in the bat. James launched multiple homeruns but non had hook spin or were lifted in the air, they were line drives that happened to leave the yard.

Jackson Priesmeyer C / 1B / Strake Jesuit , TX / 2024

Priesmeyer was another BP standout on the day producing easy back spin line drives that carried the fence. Showed a much improved swing that allowed him to consistently hit balls hard on a line. Priesmeyer also showed a quality transfer and accurate throws to second base in the defensive portion of the day. The young backstop has looked better each time we have seen him and we look forward to seeing even more progression throughout 2022.

Conner Cramer C / 3B / Oak Ridge, TX / 2024

Cramer showed a tall setup with some effort in the swing, was a little uphill at times but the raw bat speed is there and shows a solid frame to work with as a 2024 graduate.

Ryan Alaniz 1B / LHP / Winston Churchill, TX / 2023

Alaniz showed plenty of raw power to the pull side. The uncommitted 2023 also showed the ability to backspin a ball back up the middle but the raw juice in the bat definitely stood out. Alaniz was also sound around the ball at 1B during defense and looked the part of a quality 1B down the road.
