Smith put together a stellar junior season this year at McKinney HS with solid offensive numbers in the cleanup spot. The right-handed hitter has an advanced approach at the plate and creates excellent leverage and pop for his 5-foot-9, 165-pound frame. He has excellent rhythm with an early toe-tap load to use his lower half. Transfers his weight efficiently with balance, clean hand path with rhythm as he gets the barrel on plane and finishes the barrel through contact. Drove multiple balls to the right-centerfield gap with carry. Strong gap hitter right now with projectable power gap power at the next level. At shortstop he has quick footwork, easy glove actions and clean, midline exchanges with accurate throws. Smith projects as an offensive infielder and will make a nice addition to a recruiting class. Also plays linebacker in the fall for the McKinney Football team.
04.11.17 - 5-foot-8, 175-pound, strong frame with broad shoulders. Smith, hitting cleanup for McKinney, went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Both of his knocks were singles to left field, and both were hit sharply. The right-handed hitter works with a toe-tap load and has strength at contact.
