6-foot, 180-pound frame with loads of strength. The power hitting catcher hits from the left-side, he pounded 95 mph exit velo off the tee, and made loud contact in the BP round. Starts in an athletic stance with his barrel flat above his shoulder, has a low hanging leg kick as he shifts his weight back over his backside, tilts his barrel upward in his load, has fast bat speed through the zone with rhythm in the hands, and takes an aggressive hack with plenty of intent. He impressed with his actions behind the plate, he made accurate throws with three of the five throws being thrown perfectly in the tag zone, he had true carry on his throws with no arm-side fade, showed arm strength at 80 mph, and a quick release registering pop times ranging from 1.93-2.07 seconds. Ely handled pitchers well in the bullpen sessions, kept thumb underneath the low pitch and stuck it well. Off the mound he has a long arm stroke from an over-the-top arm slot, has a high balance point with some turn in his hips, takes a short stride down the mound, and has an athletic finish. His straight fastball was 83-85 mph, his curveball was 71 mph, and had feel for his changeup at 74-78 mph.

At 5-foot-11, 195-pounds, Ely has strong, sturdy frame that should be able to add more strength in the coming years. The young, left-handed hitting catcher starts slightly open at the plate in a minor crouch. Loads his weight back with a reverse leg hang before striding out, and utilizing his strong bottom hand to get through the zone. Smooth hack, loose hands, repeatable rhythm, and natural lift suggest more potential power to come in the future. Behind the plate, Ely has quick footwork and soft hands to go with a quick, clean transfer. Clean release out front with good extension and 72 mph velocity from the crouch. Pop times ranged from 2.13-2.19 at this event. Solid receiving skills during the game, does a nice job of receiving the low pitch with strong, soft hands.

The young, left-handed hitting catcher starts slightly open at the plate in a minor crouch. Loads his weight back with a reverse leg hang before striding out long, and utilizing his strong bottom hand to get through the zone on a level plane. Line drive power with future gap-to-gap potential. Behind the plate, Ely has quick footwork and soft hands to go with a quick, clean transfer. Accurate throws on the bag with average arm strength and a clean release out front with good extension and 72 mph velocity from the crouch. Pop times ranged from 2.0-2.1 at this event. Solid receiving skills during the game, did a nice job on the low pitch. At first base, he has smooth footwork with soft hands and rhythm as he plays through the ball. Accurate throws across the diamond at 78 mph.
