He also flashed a changeup that was 84-85 mph with late arm-side run.

TOS 2018
RHP
Matthew Thompson (Cypress Ranch HS, TX) pitched the final four innings for Pride, allowing an unearned run on four hits and a walk while striking out four. He was up to 93 early, but settled into the 87-91 range. His curveball flashed sharpness and depth, ranging from 76-82.

6.9.18
In spite of allowing five runs in 2.2 innings, Cypress Ranch’s Matt Thompson (Texas A&M) showed every bit of why he will likely climb up draft boards come next year. The 6-3 right-hander touched 95 mph on occasion, though he primarily worked around 91-92 mph. His 11/5 slider snapped with tight break, showing tilt and depth. Thompson ran into trouble in his half of the second inning, and the Rattlers never relinquished their lead.

08.12.17 2019 RHP Matthew Thompson (Cypress Ranch HS, TX), a Texas A&M commit, showed why he is the top arm in the class. He came out pumping 91-93 with his fastball, and controlled the pitch to the bottom of the zone while working both sides of the plate. He has a whippy, loose, and electric arm that, combined with his plus athleticism, makes him an elite prospect. While his arm strength, alone, would make him one of the highest profiled arms in the country, it is his entire arsenal that takes him to another level. Thompson showed command of a late-sinking changeup, thrown with fastball arm speed, that he felt comfortable throwing in any count. His curveball is an absolute 11/5 hammer that is thrown firmly at 79 mph, and elicited many “wow” emotions from scouts. The crowd fell hushed with each pitch that he threw with each pitch being more exciting than the last. He remains linear down the mound, and has a long stride that allows his velocity to play up even firmer. Though Thompson presently has proportional strength, there is still much more room to add to his 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame. He was at least a step above every elite arm that threw during the event, and his polish and remaining high ceiling gives him a chance to be special.

05.19.17 - Texas A&M recruit. 6-foot-2, 170-pound, lean, athletic, high-waisted frame. The right-hander has repeatable, in-line delivery with a high slot and an electric arm stroke as the ball jumps out of his hand. His fastball ranged from 88-91 mph with arm side life, topping out at 93 mph. Thompson has pin-point command of his wipe-out slider at 81-83 mph. The sophomore stays on the baseball, releasing it out front with good extension. Competes with confidence on the mound, will add a pause in his delivery to throw off the hitters timing.

02.14.17

Texas A&M Commit. 6-foot-3, 180-pound, athletic, projectable frame with broad shoulders. Thompson is a good looking young pitcher with an arm motion straight over the top. Very good up to down release on his pitches with slight run.
