06.19.18
Long, lean, projectable frame at 6-foot-6, 180-pounds. Left-hander with a clean high ¾ arm action. Sampson has smooth body actions throughout his delivery, maintains balance and direction to the plate with his body, has solid leg drive, and finishes in an athletic position ready to field his position.  His fastball sat between 78-80 mph, and there is more velocity waiting to emerge out of this frame and arm action. He flashed the ability to spin his curveball in the 70-72 mph range, threw a sharp slider that broke later than his curveball at 75 mph, and he had feel for his changeup at 71-73 with depth and deceptive arm speed.  Sampson has a high ceiling on the mound, as he will gain more velocity as he continues to get stronger and he already has a solid feel for the game with a strong presence on the mound.

10.28.17 Sampson has a projectable, lean frame at 6-foot-5, 170-pounds. The left-hander works from a high slot with a loose arm stroke. Athletic, drop and drive delivery with good hip mobility. Coils at balance, then has good hip turn down the mound with an athletic lower half finish. Fastball comes out easy, flashing tilt and ranging from 76-80 mph. Really like the way he spins his curveball at 69-72 mph. The pitch has good downward bite and 1/7 rotation. Lots upside and plenty of projection still left in the tank.

09.24.17 Really like what I saw from 2019 LHP Tye Sampson (Denton HS). The 6-foot-5, 170-pound left-hander has a projectable pitcher’s frame, and works from a high-¾ slot with a long, clean arm swing. After getting out of a shaky first inning by picking off a runner at first base with a slick move, Sampson came right back and worked a clean second inning, with his fastball ranging from 78-80 mph, and a 71-72 mph curveball with average 1/7 shape and depth.
