Last spring, Carsten made an immediate impact as a McLennan freshman, going 9-1 with a 3.69 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 63 1/3 innings while helping lead the program to an NJCAA Division I title. A 6-foot-7, 230-pound right-hander, Carsten can pump his heater at 90-94 with hard, late tail and sink, and it's easy to envision him adding even more velocity with physical development. An 81-83 mph slider with late diving action and a changeup with bottoming-out action comprise Carsten's secondary arsenal, and the Sooners' recruit has already shown that he can throw strikes with all three pitches.
